FRP & GRP Solutions for Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Sector
From produced water storage to chemical injection tanks and GRP pipeline systems — Karoch Engineering has supplied and installed FRP/GRP systems across Nigeria’s upstream and downstream oil and gas operations. Including NNPC.
Nigeria’s Oil Fields Are Among the Most Corrosive Environments on Earth
Produced water, hydrogen sulphide, carbon dioxide, and chloride-laden environments eat through steel faster in Nigeria’s Niger Delta than almost anywhere else in the world. The combination of tropical humidity, salt, and aggressive process chemistry means a steel tank without perfect coating and inspection will begin to fail within 5–7 years.
FRP and GRP materials are inherently immune to these corrosion mechanisms. There is no coating to fail, no holiday in a zinc layer, no crevice to trap chlorides. That is why operators who have switched to correctly specified FRP systems report maintenance windows that are measured in decades, not years.
What We Supply and Install for Oil & Gas Operations
▸ GRP/FRP Pipes & Fittings — gathering lines, injection water lines, firewater mains, produced water disposal
▸ Industrial FRP Storage Tanks — crude oil intermediate storage, produced water storage, slop tanks
▸ FRP Chemical Storage Tanks — chemical injection, MEG/TEG storage, acid and caustic systems
▸ GRP Fire Fighting Tanks — dedicated fire water reserve for facility fire suppression systems
▸ Pipeline Engineering Services — design, procurement, and installation of GRP piping systems
▸ Mechanical Engineering Services — structural supports, nozzle design, pressure testing and commissioning
Why the Oil and Gas Sector Chooses FRP Over Steel
| What We Deliver | Details |
|---|---|
| Factor | FRP/GRP Performance in Oil & Gas |
| Corrosion resistance | No degradation in H2S, CO2, brine, or produced water environments |
| Chemical compatibility | Resin-matched to stored fluid — handles acids, caustics, and hydrocarbons |
|
Weight |
25–30% of equivalent steel — reduces crane, transport, and foundation costs |
|
Service life |
30–50 years when correctly specified — versus 7–15 years for unprotected steel |
|
Maintenance |
Minimal — no internal coating refresh cycle required |
|
Installation |
Faster than steel welding — reduces project schedule and hot-work permits |
|
CAPEX vs OPEX |
Higher initial cost offset by lower 20-year total cost of ownership |
Karoch Engineering and NNPC — What We’ve Delivered
Karoch Engineering has worked directly with NNPC on FRP/GRP system supply and installation. Our team understands the procurement, safety, and documentation requirements of the sector — including material certification, pressure test records, and project close-out documentation. We do not treat oil and gas projects as standard industrial work. The requirements are different, and we meet them.
“Working with Karoch Engineering was a seamless experience. Their engineering team brought both technical precision and practical problem-solving skills to our project.”

FAQ
Oil & Gas FRP Questions — Answered Directly
Can FRP/GRP pipes handle H2S service?
A: Yes — GRP/FRP pipes can be specified for sour service (H2S-containing fluids) when the correct resin system and laminate schedule are used. Karoch Engineering confirms suitability based on the fluid data sheet, partial pressure of H2S, and operating temperature.
Are your FRP systems suitable for NNPC or IOC procurement standards?
A: Yes. We supply to international standards (ISO 14692, BS 4994, ASTM D3299) and can provide full material certification, hydrostatic test records, and inspection documentation as required by major operators.
Can you design and install GRP pipe systems from P&ID?
A: Yes — Karoch Engineering provides full GRP piping system supply from P&ID: pipe sizing, fittings schedule, stress analysis input (where required), supply, installation, and commissioning. Contact us with your project package for a scope and fee proposal.
