THE CHALLENGE
The Brief: Campus Water Storage and Waterproofing at Scal
The University of Benin’s 4,800sqm production facility required a complete water storage upgrade alongside structural waterproofing work across multiple buildings. The existing water storage infrastructure was aging and inadequate for the facility’s operational requirements. The waterproofing scope covered a large campus footprint where water ingress had caused ongoing structural deterioration.
The project required a contractor who could manage both disciplines simultaneously — GRP water storage engineering and structural waterproofing — without the coordination overhead of separate specialist sub-contractors. Karoch Engineering was appointed to manage both scopes as a single integrated delivery.
WHAT KAROCH DELIVERED
▸ GRP sectional panel tank installation — multiple tanks across the facility, ground-level and elevated configurations
▸ Structural waterproofing — applied waterproofing treatment across rooftop, basement, and structural surfaces across the 4,800sqm footprint
▸ Pipework connections — inlet, outlet, and distribution connections integrated with the university’s existing water supply infrastructure
▸ Civil preparation works — concrete base preparation and minor civil works for tank installation positions
▸ Project management — single point of contact for both waterproofing and tank scopes, reducing coordination burden on the university
THE RESULT
Delivered on Time, to Specification — and Invited Back for the Whole Facility
The project was completed to the University of Benin’s specification and to the satisfaction of the institution’s leadership. The water storage infrastructure is operational. The waterproofing has resolved the ingress issues across the treated areas. The result was not just a completed project — it was a relationship. The Vice Chancellor’s commitment to bring Karoch Engineering back for the entire facility is the most direct expression of client confidence we have received from any client.
